Oracle Methodology

Every production record on every jurisdiction ledger cites one version of this methodology, and every jurisdiction license names the version it covers. This page is where the published version and its fingerprint live, so a reader can check that the methodology a record cites is the one that was published.

What the methodology fixes

The methodology is the published procedure an Independent Verifier follows to turn metered or modelled generation into a determination: one facility, one interval, one quantity in MWh. A record that does not follow it is not a record of this ledger. In outline, the published document will fix:

  1. Eligible facilities and metering. What counts as a solar facility, which meter or data source is primary, and how a facility is identified on its ledger.
  2. Intervals. The hourly interval a determination covers, how intervals aggregate, and the handling of gaps and daylight-saving boundaries.
  3. Trust layers 1–6. What evidence each layer requires (revenue meter, utility portal export, inverter telemetry, irradiance model, site inspection, third-party audit) and how a determination states the layers it rests on.
  4. Determination. How the quantity is computed from the evidence, its rounding (kWh precision, stated in MWh), and the tolerance within which a verifier must agree with the owner's figure.
  5. Corrections. A correction is a new record naming the one it corrects; nothing is edited or removed.
  6. Matching for use. For a retirement entry, how retired units are matched to load on the same grid in the same hourly interval, so that a claim of solar use is checkable against the records it cites.
  7. Quantities only. The methodology produces quantities. It does not produce, reference or imply a price, index, benchmark or currency value, and no such figure is posted on the chain.

Publication and versions

When version 1.0 is published, this page will show its version number and the SHA-256 fingerprint of the published document, and the same two values will be written into METHODOLOGY in the ledger code so that every page and the server cite them. A later version is published the same way; records always cite the version in force when the determination was made, and a license names the versions it covers.

The methodology document is the work of the Iron Sun Initiative and is reserved; it is not covered by the MIT license that covers the signature and chain code on this site.
